Dinghies are stored in a fenced compound adjacent to the launching slipway at Hatston on the west side of Kirkwall Bay from where our races are started. In summer dinghies are kept in the compound and in winter it is used as lay-up storage for yachts. Racing and water-borne training are carried out at the Hatston Base. At the moment, points races take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the summer season (1st Tuesday in May until 9th September) with the first race starting at 19.15 sharp. Training takes place on Tuesday evenings and some week-ends. There is more than one class of dinghy sailing within the points races, usually wayfarers, albacores, 505s and lasers. The race committee therefore use the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system for producing corrected times and race results. To view the latest results click here. To see a list of Regattas view our Sailing Events Page .
The Club has a well stocked bar which is open on all sailing nights and Friday and Saturday nights from 20.00. Our bar is staffed by members on a voluntary basis supplemented by paid staff on function nights. Shower and toilet facilities are available for the crews of visiting yachts. For a list of social events have a look at our Social Events Page. Above the Bar and dance floor is another multipurpose room which can be used as a function room for dances / weddings / celebrations etc. This space is also used as a classroom for the club's RYA training programme. |
